Notes:
This is the story of the tako about the island of Aitutaki, which the ai tupuna (ancestors) likened to a fish with its head to the north and its tail to the south. On handing over the tako of the island to Turi Tama, Te Autapu was the name given to the head of the island. Other parts of the island were named after parts of the fish: the lips, the fins, the tail etc. This tako (song (b)) is mostly about the head of the fish. Tapa'i and Taikarekare are the two front fins of the fish. There is a little hill called Pira. This is likened to the fin on the top of the fish. Tumanava enua is the belly of the fish. The tail of the fish is called Nukumanini.
