Notes:
Based on the story of a young woman named Sikoau. When she married, she went to live with her husband’s parents. One day she went to visit her own parents. After the visit, her brothers Tangaroa and Tane brought her back to her husband then returned to their own home. Before they left, they heard the sound of breaking wood coming from the young girl’s husband but took no notice. He was making an umu (earth oven) in which to cook his wife. She sang this song as she was being chopped up for the umu to her brothers Tane and Tangaroa, hoping they would hear her voice.
