Notes:

Composed by a woman named Tuototo, who went to a dance on a moonlit night (turu “full moon”). Her husband was Paroro. He saw her with a man named Tamariki and beat her, as a result of which she ran away and hid in a cave. She remembered her brother Ngarue, who had died, and wished he was there to take her part. This happened before Gospel times.
